I've Been Working On The Railroad
I've been working on the railroad,
All the live-long day.
I've been working on the railroad,
Just to pass the time away.
Can't you hear the whistle blowing,
Rise up so early in the morn,
Can't you hear the captain shouting,
"Dinah, blow your horn."
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow, your horn?
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow, your horn.
Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah,
Someone's in the kitchen, I know,
Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah,
Strummin; on the old banjo.
Singing

Arts & Crafts
Train Whistle
What You Need:
Toilet Paper Tubes
Wax Paper
Rubber Band
Paint
They simply decorate a toilet paper tube with paint. Then you punch a hole about a half-inch down the tube. Finally put a circle of wax paper over one end secure it with a rubber band. Now your children can pretend to be a train and make whisle like noises (sounds more like a kazoo)
Shape Train
What You Need:
Paper
Paste
Paint
Have your children cut two circles, one triangle, one large square, and one rectangle from the paper. They can then add the circles to the bottom of the square and the rectangle standing up on top of the square and the triangle pointy end to the square. Then let your children paint their train. This makes a cute train and lets your children see how different shapes can go together to form a unique shape.
Theme Ideas
Make a Child Train
Have young children to make a human train, choo-choo-ing around the classroom or playground. In advance, you might draw chalk tracks for the train to follow. Teach students these traditional whistle signals:
--Stop: one short toot
--Go: two long toots
--Stop at the next station: three short toots
Have children line up, each with his/her hands resting on the waist of the person in front. Let children take turns being the engineer, riding in the front car, or the locomotive. The engineer can wear a cap, and use the whistle to signal the rest of the cars to stop, go, or get ready to stop at the next station.
