        Little Sunflower

        I'm a little sunflower
        I'm so small.
        Soil, sun, and water
        Make me tall. When I get all grown up
        You will see,
        That I'm as big
        As I can be!

        One lonely sunflower growing in the sun
        Wants to play and have some fun
        Then Whoooosh went the wind
        and scattered all the seeds
        and now there's lots of sunflowers
        playing in the breeze.

        Paper Plate Sunflowers

        Paint small paper plates yellow. Provide cut out "petals" which the children glue around the outside of the plate. While the paint was still wet, sprinkle real sunflower seeds in the center for the flower. Pretty to hang!!

        A bit of a twist to the sunflower ~ use the child's handprints for the petals & finger prints for the seeds.

        Paper Cup Sunflowers

        You will need:

        Scissors
        cotton ball
        3-ounce paper cup
        markers
        pipe cleaner
        colored chalk

        Cut a paper cup from the rim to the base several times. Fold each section outward, halfway down the cup. Make a small puncture for the pipe cleaner stem in the base of the cup. Children can insert the stem through the hole and then gently push the cotton into the center of the sunflower so the point of the pipe cleaner is covered.. Children may color the petals and center with markers or colored chalk. Have them tape the stem to the outside of the flowerpot.

        Make sunflower stick puppets--Paint plates yellow, cut triangles out all along sides, paint craft sticks green, glued them to the plate and glued sunflower seeds in the middle. They turned out really cute, and the kids love them!

        Sunflower Art Activity

        Another variation is to trace the child's hand and cut out to use for petals and leaves.

        Sunflower cake

        I made this for my daughters birthday when she was 13 it turned out really nice!

        Bake a round cake
        Buy 2 boxes of twinkies
        Ice the cake and twinkies with lemon yellow icing
        Place the twinkies around the cake like petals
        Trace with brown icing.....around the petals and the cake
        Fill the center of the cake with mini chocolate chips...point up for the sunflower seeds.
