Preschool Curriculum Programs
The question is should you do some sort of preschool activities with the children in your care............. and, if so where do you begin? Many providers create their own preschool curriculums either from their own resources at home (preschool curriculum theme books) or from materials they find online or a combination of both. One of my favorite resource books to use is the Mailbox Magazine and books. There are many places to find great preschool materials online. One of my favorites is of course my own Step By Step Preschool Theme Pages. Another favorite of mine is the Preschool Sublist of the Provider's Playground email list. The preschool theme sites listed here are all pages I visit frequently for ideas. Organizing a preschool program can be very time consuming so many child care providers opt to purchase a packaged preschool curriculum kit. Listed below you will find links to the most popular packaged kits. I'd love to hear from you! If you've used any of the below curriculums or know of one I've missed, let me know. I'd like to include your comments, good or bad, regarding your experience with packaged curriculums. Email me at janalyn686@yahoo.com
What I'm using this year! I get many inquiries as to what curriculum I am using each year. This year, for the second year in a row, I've decided to use KidCrafters Preschool Program. With KidCrafters you can join a Buying Group and get the program for as low as $21/month regardless of the number of children you plan on teaching. You choose any one of 3 cycles (different themes) and you will be shipped the entire year (Sept - May plus summer) all at once. You will receive a CD plus a nice reference book for each month. You simply print out the activities you are interested in from the CD. There is enough material to last more than one year! KidCrafters also has 4 seasonal literacy programs (winter, spring, summer and fall). For all of us book lovers out there, these are awesome.
I ordered their materials and must say it was far below my expectations. What I received what a yellow folder with several zeroxed copies of possible projects -- they were very light (obviously copies of copies), the alphabet letters were strange -- for the letter A they chose the word "airplane" the "a" sound is not even used in that word, the phonogram "ai" is what creates an "a" sound, very poor choice. Overall it was most certainly not worth the $22.45 I paid for it -- Finally, most of the stuff I received, I could have downloaded myself from various "free" pre-school sites. Hope this helps -- Debbie J. -- Arizona"
