Teddybear Theme
Page 2Arts & Crafts Need: A large bear cut out with the overalls and face drawn on green tempra paint and two buttons per child. After reading Corduroy to my kids they painted a cut-out bear's overalls green; once it was dry they glued on his buttons. I did this project with 3 year olds, older kids could do the cutting and face drawing. This was a good way to introduce circle shapes, the color green, talk about how it feels to miss something special to you and also how nice it is to make new friends.

Teddy Bear Hat
Need: a picture of a teddy bear head, Brown construction paper, Crayons, Glue, and Scissors. Have the children color a picture of a teddybear head. About the size of a 8 x 11 page. Then cut strip out of brown construction paper. Make headbands out of the strips. (Either use glue or Tape, remember no stapes near a child's head.) Cut out the teddy bear head and glue it to the front of the headband. Now the children can be teddy bears too!

Teddy Bear Posters
When the children bring their bears I will help the children trace around them onto a large piece of paper. The children then color them to look like their teddies and to the side of these drawings I write these sentences:
My bears's name is ________.
_________ is ________inches long. (together we use a ruler to measure teddy).
________came to live with me when_____________. (the story of where bear came from)
__________ and I like to ______________. (what the child likes to do with teddy)
The children can fill in the lines with my help or I will fill in the lines for them. The sentences can be changed to any topic that might capture the interest of children. Once we changed the sentences to discribe what teddy and the child liked to eat at our teddy bear picnic. The children couldn't wait to show their parents their teddy bear poster! Each child gets a button to glue on paper and draw a picture of where he or she thinks Corduroy's lost button is.

Lacing Bear Shapes
Cut brown posterboard into bear shapes and let them punch holes around the edges. Let the children choose pieces of colorful yarn (dip the yarn tips in glue and let dry or wrap with tape to keep them from fraying) ... lace the yarn through the holes. You could even have available a teddy bear hole punch instead of the circle type punch.

We did a cute teddy bear activity when we were working on circles. I cut one large circle, one med. circle, and 6 small circles for each teddy bear. The large one was the body, the med. one was the head, and the small ones were the feet and ears. I layed them out on a piece of construction paper, and traced around the circles. When the kids sat down I gave them each a piece of paper with the circles traced on it. I had used all different colors for the circles so I let them pick which colors they wanted until they all had enough pieces to complete the teddy. I then had them match the size of the circle to the one on the paper and glue it in the right spot. When they were done i gave them crayons to draw a face and decorate the teddy. We worked on lots of skills with this one. We did shapes, colors, matching, size concept and ended with creativitie. It was lots of fun and the teddys looked great on the wall in the playroom!

Teddy Bear Book
Let the children dictate stories about teddy bears while you write them dowm. Have the children illustrate their stories. Then staple them together with a cover to make a Teddy Bear Book.
Teddy Plates
1 small paper plate,1 large paper plate, brown construction paper, glue or tape or stapler (whatever works for you and your kids), markers or crayons. Overlap small plate and lg plate (sm plate will be on top for the bears head/ lg plate on bottom for the bears body). Glue them together. Cut 6 circles out of const. paper. 2 for the ears, 2 for the hands and 2 for the feet...Glue them in place. I let my kids draw their own eyes, nose, mouth...however they want to decorate the bear is great!
Beary Much Bears
2 circles the same size (1 for head/1 for body)
2 ovals (squatty & fat) for the arms
Smaller, lighter color circle for the face snout (I used pinking shears to give it a furry look)
1 oval cut in half for the ears (same lighter color used for snout ~ also trimmed with pinking shears)Assemble the bear and then add a red cut-out heart to his tummy with the message *I Love You Beary Much* They really are cute! I got the idea from a scrapbooking workshop I went to about a year ago.

Games Teddy-Bear Descriptions
Put two teddy bears in front of you so that children can easily see them. Explain that in this game, you will describe one of the bears and children will guess which one you are talking about. Begin by giving broad clues that could apply to either bear. Gradually, make the hints more specific and applicable to only one of the pair. Be sure to include clues that describe the absence of a particular characteristic ("this bear is not white"), as well as clues that describe the presence of certain attributes. Gradually add challenge to the game by increasing the number of bear in the original group. Over time, have children take on the role of clue-givers.
