I'm a Little Joey - sung to "I'm a Little Teapot"

I'm a little joey,
Oh so small;
Deep in Mother's pouch
So I won't fall.
When I start to grow up
Big and tall,
Out I'll hop like
A bouncing ball.

This Little Calf - (extend fingers, push each down in succession)

This little calf eats grass.
This little calf eats hay.
This little calf drinks water.
This little calf runs away.
This little calf does nothing
But just lies down all day.
(rest last finger in palm of hand)

My Kitten - Sung to "Sing a Song of Sixpence"

I have a little kitten,
She's black and white and gray.
When I try to cuddle her,
She always wants to play,
So I drag a piece of yarn
Across the kitchen floor.
She thinks it is a little mouse
To chase right out the door.

Little Kitten - Sung to "I Have a Little Dreidel"

I have a little kitten
With soft and shiny fur.
And when I pet my kitten,
She goes purr, purr, purr, purr.

Oh Kitten, kitten, kitten
With soft and shiny fur.
I love to pet my kitten,
And hear her purr, purr, purr.

I like Baby Animals - Sung to "London Bridge"

I like baby animals,
Animals, animals.
I like baby animals,
I'll name some for you.

Kittens, puppies, chicks and foals,
Chicks and foals, chicks and foals.
Kittens, puppies, chicks and foals,
I can name some more.

Goslings, ducklings, lambs and calves,
Lambs and calves, lambs and calves.
Goslings, ducklings, lambs and calves,
I like baby animals.

Babies - Sung to The Farmer in the Dell

We all once were babies
We all once were babies
Just like small du-ucklings,
We all once were babies.

2. . . . Just like soft ki-ttens. . .
3. . . . Just like sweet pu-uppies. . .
4. . . . Just like green tu-urtles. . .

Animal Book

I would make a book with all kinds of pictures of some cute or wierd animals! Or any kind of animal! I know that kids just like to look at the pictures!!!

~Submitted by Jordan from Tennessee

Puppy Puppet

Make a hole large enough for a finger in the side of a paper cup. Lay the cup on its side with the hole downward. Use construction paper scraps and markers to add dog features to the cup; make the bottom of the cup the nose of the puppet. Put the puppet on a finger and use it to tell a story or sing a song.

Theme Ideas

Animal Babies

Collect pictures of animals and their young. Place the adult animal pictures in one basket and pictures of the baby animals in another basket. The children can match adult animals to their offspring.

Baby Animal Sounds...

Select one child to be the mother or father farm animal. The best animals to choose would be sheep, chickens, or cows. Take the mother farm animal to a remote corner of the room and have the animal hide its eyes. Choose one or two of the remaining children to be the babies. All of the children must cover their mouths, as the mother returns to find her babies. The children chosen to be the babies make tiny baas or peeps or moos. The mother or father must listen very carefully to find the babies.

In The Kitchen

Puppy Chow

Melt in microwave:
1 stick margarine
2/3 cup peanut butter
1 pkg chocolate chips
Pour over 1 12oz box Chex cereal in a large bowl. Stir. Give each child a ziplock baggie with a little powdered sugar in the bottom. Add one spoonful of cereal mixture and zip bag. Then the children shake it up until it cools. Be sure the servings are very small as this is very sweet.

Bird Nest Snacks

Mix 12 oz. package semisweet chocolate chips with 1/2 cup chunky style peanut butter. Stir in 4 cups chow mein noodles until well coated. Drop by tablespoons onto waxed paper. Press with spoon to form a nest. To the nest, add jelly beans for bird's eggs. Cool and serve.

Animal Crackers

Provide small cookies shaped like zoo animals (they often come in little boxes or can be purchased in large bags). Encourage your child to identify each animal and make its sound before eating it!
